I will be looking at only two pieces out of the show, but I would suggest going and seeing it. There is a lot of amazing work in that gallery space. I will be talking about the pieces of Del Harrow and Zimra Beiner in the context of the Rhino and Grasshopper programs that are being posted about on this blog.

The first work I will be talking about is the vessels made by Del Harrow.

These vessels are a good example of how one can use the Rhino and Grasshopper programing to make a vessel and alter it. This is clearly shown in the five vessels that seem to deform in shape as they go from the right to the left.
I am quite sure that these vessels had a positive printed of them with which a two part mold was pulled from them to be used as a press mold. The photo above shows the seam line within the vessels and marks from the artist pushing the clay into the mold.
These pieces are rather exciting because they do show that one can use the programs of Rhino and Grasshopper as a tool to make work. Just as the potters wheel was once a new invention, but is now a common tool used in a ceramist studio.

The second work are sculptural forms by Zimra Beiner.
These works make me think of the parametric vessel process in which there are multiple shape layers to make a larger vessel. I do wonder what the Grasshopper set up would look like if one were to replicate these pieces in Rhino and Grasshopper.
It would be interesting to see if one can introduce the multi-material characteristics of these works into a printed and molded parametric vessel.
